For over 50 years, Meredith Wilson Gravely was a dance educator in Danville and the surrounding area. She began her dance training locally with Anne Boyer and after graduating from Stratford College, became a teacher in Boyer’s school in 1959. She also had her own school of dance in South Boston from 1959-1964. Beginning in 1964, Mrs. Gravely taught dance at Averett College where she choreographed numerous musicals and May Day celebrations. Mrs. Gravely also taught at Chatham Hall, opened her school of dance in Danville from 1975-2001 and reopened her South Boston School from 1990-1997.
Mrs. Gravely studied with many master teachers throughout the years. She was awarded a life membership from Dance Educators of America and Dance Masters of America in recognition of her years as a qualified dance educator. She has taught teachers and students at Ray Hollingsworth’s Dance Troupe Conventions and has been a judge many times at numerous competitions. She has also been an adjudicator for the Carolina Dance Masters Performing Arts Competition.
Mrs. Gravely always had a genuine interest in each of her student’s progress in dance education and was dedicated to excellence. She retired in the spring of 2010.
Mrs. Gravely passed away in December 2021. Her legacy will live on through our studio for many years to come.
